Dress in Layers

Curling is played on ice, so the rink is chilly, but curling is also an active sport! Sweeping can warm you up surprisingly quickly, and depending on your position, you may be doing a lot of it.

Start with a few light layers that you can easily remove as the game goes on. A comfortable shirt paired with a sweater, quarter-zip or light jacket is a great combination.

Choose Pants You Can Move In

Your pants might actually be the most important part of your outfit.

When delivering a curling stone, you’ll typically move down into a lunge, so you want pants that stretch and move comfortably with you. Athletic pants, curling pants, joggers or other stretchy options work well.

A good test? If you can’t comfortably lunge in them, don’t curl in them!

Jeans and other restrictive pants are best left off the ice.

Don’t Forget Your Hands

A pair of lightweight gloves can make a big difference in keeping your hands warm. Look for gloves that still give you good grip and dexterity so you can comfortably hold your broom while sweeping.

Comfort Comes First

There’s no single perfect curling outfit. Some curlers stay bundled up for an entire game, while others are down to their first layer after a few ends of sweeping.

The goal is simple: dress warmly, wear layers and choose clothing that lets you move.
