This week features an American curler, Debra Martin. Deb curls out of the Plainfield, NJ and Bucks Country, PA curling clubs in the GNCC or east coast region of the United States. She is the true embodiment of a passionate “newcomer” who has adopted curling as a way of life and seeks to bring about change and growth within the sport in the states.

Please join in on our Instagram Live session on Friday and we look forward to speaking with Deb! Looking for lots of American curler voices in the comments! #sharethemicnow #keeppushing

“A lifelong athlete, I became enthralled with Curling during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games.

I threw my first stones at the Plainfield Curling Club in NJ when I attended their 2010 Open House and was immediately enamored. I started league play that Fall and have been completely obsessed with the sport since.

My wife and I are currently members of the Plainfield Curling Club in NJ and Bucks County Curling Club in PA. We ‘spiel regularly throughout our region (GNCC) and aspire to visit all the clubs in the US. We are well on our way; but have yet to throw stones in Canada or Abroad. I enjoy the recreational and social component a great deal, though I am thoroughly ignited by the competitive challenges & opportunities available for club-level curlers.

My passion for Curling is routinely re-enforced by the extraordinary community of athletes, friends and acquaintances that make up my curling tribe. It’s a uniquely addictive experience that only other curlers seem to fully appreciate. A decade later, Curling is still my favorite thing to do, to watch and to discuss. It’s my winter happy place!

Pre-COVID, I made a living as a Performance Coach & Corporate Development Trainer, Fitness instructor, & Wellness Programming Consultant. As it happens, Curling provides me ample opportunity to practice what I preach when it comes to things like character-building, resilience, collaboration, cooperation and team building!”
