In this exclusive Goldline video, the members of Team Brendan Bottcher – Goldline Ambassadors based in Edmonton – explain their favourite practice drill.
The goal is to calibrate their individual sliding deliveries to achieve a perfect “line” of practice stones. The team uses two stones to form a narrow port at the near hogline, and the thrower slides and delivers his rock through the port without touching either of the placer stones.
Second Brad Thiessen is the guinea pig for this exercise (!) while skip Brendan Bottcher narrates. Third Darren Moulding adds context and describes an illustrated graphic showing the drill, while lead Karrick Martin starts “cleaning” Brad’s stone once it clears the port.
Another stone is placed halfway down the sheet of ice; with a good release, Brad’s delivered stone should pass by that rock by a few centimetres, and settle in the four-foot rings at the far house.
Each athlete takes a turn and the result should be four stones in the far house, all lined up with one atop the other.
